The dismal start to the Asheville Tourists’ season continued on Sunday.

Delmarva scored six runs each in their first and last innings to key a 14-9 win and a four-game sweep of the Tourists.

After slapping around Asheville pitching in an 18-3 win on Saturday, the Shorebirds did it again, with 14 hits.

A six-run first and six-run eighth propelled Delmarva.

The top six hitters in the lineup combined for nine hits and all six scored two runs. Jean Carrillo and Will Robertson had home runs for Delmarva (4-0).

The Shorebirds outscored Asheville 40-17 in the four-game sweep.

Riley Pint, the parent club Colorado Rockies’ top draft pick in 2016 who struggled through a 2-11 season in Asheville last year, fared no better in his 2018 debut.

He gave up five runs (three earned) with two hits and two walks in 1/3 of an inning of his start. He faced just six batters.

Matt McLaughlin was 3-for-3 and Casey Golden hit a two-run homer for Asheville.

The Tourists (0-4) head to Kannapolis for a three-game series before Thursday’s home opener vs. Columbia (S.C.). It is the first Thirsty Thursday of the season at McCormick Field.
