In a wild game in which the Tourists rallied from a six-run deficit and blew a three-run lead, a 12-12 deadlock was decided by a walk-off home run.

Asheville’s Shael Mendoza drilled a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning for a dramatic 14-12 win over Kannapolis in front of more than 3,300 fans on Education Day at McCormick Field.

The Intimidators (25-13) took an 9-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Asheville (14-22) shredded the Kannapolis bullpen for 11 runs in the final three innings.

The Tourists finished with 18 hits, and a trio of players had three hits and three RBIs – Mendoza, Bret Boswell and Ramon Marcelino. All three hit homers.

The two teams combined for 33 hits and were 16-for-34 with runners in scoring position.

Justin Yurchak had a pair of doubles among his three hits and drove home four runs for the Intimidators.

After taking Wednesday off, the Tourists play four games in Rome before returning to Asheville for an eight-game homestand that begins Monday.
