WLOS WNC Top 10 Football Poll Week 6

No changes in the top nine positions as Western North Carolina’s best teams keep rolling.

1. Franklin (5-0)

After five games, the Panthers have outscored their opponents 192-57, the latest a 42-7 romp over Owen. Looks like another breather coming up next before Mountain Six 2-A Conference action begins with an Oct. 6 showdown at Hendersonville.

Friday’s game – home vs. Carolina (S.C.)

2. Mountain Heritage (5-0)

After blowing through four straight teams by a 185-20 count, the Cougars had to rally late to take a 28-22 win at Hendersonville. Now Heritage takes a week off before a Western Highlands Conference battle with No. 5 Mitchell on Oct. 6.

3. Reynolds (5-1, 3-0)

Rockets still haven’t lost a conference game since 2014 after a 49-0 whitewash of North Henderson. If the Rockets are going to be challenged in the Western Mountain Athletic Conference, it may be this coming week.

4. Murphy (5-1, 1-0)


Bulldogs began defense of its Smoky Mountain 1-A Conference title impressively, with a 28-12 win over contender Robbinsville.

Friday’s game – at Andrews

5. Mitchell (6-0)

Mountaineers wrapped up non-conference play outscoring opponents 255-69, but the league opener is a Wow! game – Oct. 6 at No. 2 Mountain Heritage.

6. Christ School (4-0)

The Greenies celebrated the 2017 debut of sophomore quarterback Navy Shuler from an elbow injury with a 57-21 romp over SouthLake Christian.

7. West Henderson (4-1, 2-0)

Running the last-minute offense to perfection, the Falcons tied Roberson 22-22 with 15 seconds left in regulation and then won a thriller 38-25 in overtime. The Falcons may be WNC’s grittiest team.

8. Brevard (5-1)

The Blue Devils keep finding ways to win, earning their fifth straight victory with a 34-26 triumph over Chase. After wrapping up non-conference play, Brevard opens Mountain Six 2-A Conference play Oct. 6 vs. East Henderson.

9. Cherokee (5-0)

The Braves dispatch with another non-conference foe, handling the Carolina Gladiators 53-6. Cherokee now opens Smoky Mountain Conference play anxious to prove it can be a contender.

10. Pisgah (4-2)

The Bears continue to play all comers in a challenging non-conference schedule, knocking Polk County from the undefeated ranks. Pisgah wraps up on-conference play this week.
