WLOS WNC Top 10 Football Poll: Week 9

Some changes at the bottom of the poll, with Pisgah and Asheville High falling out after losses and West Henderson and Polk County returning after earning their sixth wins of the season.

1. Reynolds (7-1, 5-0)

There appears to be no stopping the Rockets after a 35-0 romp over Asheville High, the program’s 30th straight win against WNC opponents over four years and the 23rd in a row against a conference foe.

2. Franklin (8-0, 2-0)

A 28-12 win over Brevard was the second straight against a Mountain Six 2-A Conference contender, leaving the Panthers as the clear favorite to win the regular-season crown.

3. Mountain Heritage (7-0, 2-0)

No one in the Western Highlands 2-A Conference appears capable of challenging the Cougars, who are 12-2 in league play since the start of the 2015 season after a 54-7 romp over Owen.

4. Murphy (7-1, 3-0)

A 56-21 drilling of Hayesville gave Bulldogs’ coach David Gentry the state record for most career victories at one school. He is 387-190 overall, 331-115 at Murphy. Amazing numbers.

5. Christ School (7-0)

The Greenies were challenged for a change but outscored Charlotte Latin 42-35 to remain undefeated.

6. Mitchell (7-1, 1-1)

Perhaps playing angry, the Mountaineers bounced back from a disappointing loss to rival Mountain Heritage by pounding Madison.

7. Cherokee (8-0, 3-0)

The Braves, after an impressive 32-12 win at Andrews, face their biggest Smoky Mountain 1-A Conference challenge this coming week.

8. West Henderson (6-2, 4-1)

The Falcons’ defense almost shut down North Henderson’s offense completely in a 15-0 shutout on Thursday night, winning for the fifth time in six games.

9. Polk County (6-2, 2-0)

Coming off a 38-15 win at Avery County, the Wolverines are about to find out if they can compete for a Western Highlands Conference title in their next two games vs. Mitchell and Mountain Heritage.

The Blue Devils’ six-game winning streak came to an end with a 28-12 loss to Mountain Six 2-A Conference foe Franklin.
