WLOS - The Asheville Youth Rowing Association went to Sacramento for the USRowing National Championships as decided underdogs. Facing programs with upwards of 200 athletes, the rowers from the mountains number just under 100. The women's four boat steam-rolled through their preliminary heat to earn a spot in the semifinals on Saturday.

The men's four boat finished just shy of an automatic spot in the semifinals, but earned a bid after winning their repachage, a "second chance" for teams that don't qualify.

In the semifinals, both teams finished fourth in their race; the top three advanced to the "A" finals. However, both teams received an opportunity to compete in the "B" finals and took full advantage. The women hawked down the Nobles team with 500 meters to go to win their competition, while the men led the entire way and took first place in their division.

That means both teams officially finish as the 7th fastest boats in the country in their respective categories.
