WLOS - On a dreary night at Memorial Stadium the Asheville Cougars defense shined. Keeping the visiting Watauga Pioneers at bay all night, the Cougars offense got the one goal needed to book a trip to the state quarterfinals. The game-winner came courtesy of Justin Fleer with eleven minutes left in the first half.

The 4-seed Cougars will host 9-seed Marvin Ridge on Saturday. The MRHS Mavericks knocked off A.C. Reynolds Thursday night, 4-0. Elsewhere in WNC, the Polk County Wolverines are going to the 1A quarterfinals after a 2-1 decision over Union Academy. The Wolverines will play host to Gray Stone Day.
