Franklin softball stays perfect, advances to 4th round

Franklin - The Franklin Panthers softball team keeps rolling along. The 2nd seed Panthers beat visiting 10th seed Mount Pleasant 3-0 to advance to the fourth round of the 2A playoffs. Franklin now 22-0.

The game was scoreless in the second when Neveah Tran lined one down the line into left to score Page Norton. Then Haily Bryson hit a grounder to second that was bobbled and that allowed Hailey Freeman to score to make it 2-0. In the third Franklin added another run on a wild pitch. Bryson didn't need any more. She pitched 7 shutout innings and allowed only 3 baserunners.

Franklin will host Fred T. Foard who knocked off previously unbeaten Madison 6-0.

In other softball playoff action: in 3A: Jesse Carson 9 North Buncombe 1. Cox Mill 6 Tuscola 1. 1A: South Stanly 12 Robbinsville 3. North Stokes led Polk County 13-1 in the first when heavy rains forced a supension.
