High School Football Playoffs Third Round Recap

WLOS - The third week of the high school football state playoffs saw several Western North Carolina teams either inch closer to a state championship, or see their dreams dashed.

In the 3A-AA bracket, A.C. Reynolds advanced to the regional final with a 17-7 win over South Iredell. The Rockets sacked Vikings QB Brady Pope seven times in the victory. REynolds will host Sun Valley next week.

In 2A-A, Mountain Heritage topped conference foe Hendersonville, 30-20. The Cougars travel to Reidsville next week.

Franklin's perfect season ended in the 2A-AA quarterfinal, as the Panthers fell to Hibriten, 37-7.

In 1A-A, Cherokee and Mitchell will face-off with a trip to the state championship on the line. The Mountaineers disposed of Robbinsville, 45-25. Cherokee won a battle of unbeatens over Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, 47-20.

Finally, Murphy continues the defense of their 2016 state title, knocking off East Surry, 49-27. The Bulldogs will travel to top-seeded Mount Airy next week.
