WLOS - The East Henderson Eagles have come flying out of the gates this season. The girls basketball team entered Friday nights showdown at Brevard with a 9-0 record, and were looking for their first conference win. The Blue Devils checked in with a 7-4 record, and were on the verge of giving East its first loss the entire game. The Eagles held a four point lead at halftime, and both teams traded shots for most of the third period. East shifted into high gear in the final period and Brevard struggled to keep its composure, allowing the Eagles to pull away for a 55-43 win. This was East's first win by less than 15 points, and head coach John Johnston acknowledged after the game that his team knew they would be tested. He added that he was proud of how his team responded to the relentless Blue Devils attack.

Brevard is back in action Saturday against Rosman, while East Henderson if off until after Christmas.
