WLOS - For the third straight year, the North Carolina team knocked off their opponents from South Carolina in the nation's oldest postseason high school all star game. The 81st annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas featured five players from western North Carolina: Joey Curry (Murphy), Tykel Landrum (Hendersonville), Tye Mintz (Cherokee), Jake Setterlind (Reynolds), and Frank Torres (Reynolds).

The Tar Heels started the game strong, scoring touchdowns on their opening two drives. The Sandlappers kept pace in the first quarter, but trailed 28-12 at halftime. Landrum intercepted a Dakereon Joyner pass in the first half.

Curry, who's high school head coach David Gentry was the head coach for the North Carolina team, iced the game with a fourth quarter touchdown run.
