WLOS - They started from the bottom, now they're here. The UNC Asheville Bulldogs class of 2018 only won nine games in their first college season. That would be the only time they finished with a losing season. The senior duo of Bree Fitzgerald and Khaila Webb saw victory totals of 26 and 19 over the next two seasons, and entered Saturday's "Battle of the Bulldogs" with Gardner-Webb with a chance to snare another winning season.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair. Webb and Zip Scott both contributed 4 points en route to a 12-12 stalemate after one. Wall added two more three-pointers in the second frame as the Bulldogs took a 25-23 edge into the locker room.

The game would be tight all the way to the end where the Bulldogs found themselves trailing 60-59 with under ten seconds to go. Jessica Wall launched a three from the right wing that found the bottom of the net as the clock ticked under seven seconds and GWU's last ditch attempt fell short to give UNCA a 62-60 win.

The seniors were spectacular in the win, combining for 32 points. Fitzgerald notched her 14th double-double of the season, tallying 19 points and snaring 12 rebounds. "A thousand points scored for Khaila, one of the best guards in the league," said head coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick. "Then Bree Fitzgerald, I'm not certain in my 16 years of coaching that I've coached a player as athletically gifted and determined as Bree on the boards."

Now the Bulldogs head to Lynchburg, Va. for the Big South Conference tournament. UNC Asheville will be the 3-seed and gets a first round bye before playing 6-seed Campbell on Friday at 8:00pm.
