Only one new team in the poll as most squads cruised to wins or enjoyed an off week.

1. Franklin (4-0)

The Panthers had the week off, and wrap up non-conference play the next two weeks before Mountain Six 2-A Conference action begins with an Oct. 6 showdown at Hendersonville.

2. Mountain Heritage (4-0)

Cougars keep rolling with a 49-0 rout of Hayesville. Coach Joey Robinson’s squad has outscored four opponents 185-20, but have an interesting non-conference battle coming up this week.

Friday’s Game – at Hendersonville

3. Reynolds (4-1, 2-0)

The Rockets’ 16th straight win over Enka (43-7) was another walkover. This week Reynolds goes after its 21st consecutive victory vs. a conference opponent over the past four seasons.

4. Murphy (4-1)

Bulldogs wrapped up non-conference play with a 48-0 romp over Gilmer County (Ga.). Defense of their Smoky Mountain 1-A Conference title begins this week with a stout challenge at home.

5. Mitchell (5-0)

Mountaineers haven’t been challenged in recent weeks, the latest a 50-0 waltz past Carolina (S.C.) Wildcats.

6. Christ School (3-0)

Off week for the Greenies, who are expected to get injured quarterback Navy Shuler back this week. His cousin West Shuler has led the team impressively in his absence.

7. West Henderson (3-1, 1-0)

Following an off week, the Falcons will put their ground game to the test this week as they try to improve to 2-0 in Western Mountain Athletic 3-A play.

8. Brevard (4-1)

Blue Devils struggled but rallied past Owen 27-22 on Thursday night to win their fourth straight. After wrapping up non-conference play this week, Brevard opens Mountain Six 2-A Conference play Oct. 6 vs. East Henderson.

9. Cherokee (4-0)

Braves stayed undefeated with a 35-28 thriller over Smoky Mountain. Cherokee finishes non-conference play this week before opening Smoky Mountain Conference action Sept. 29 with a big game at Swain County.

10. Polk County (4-0)

Two things have returned to the Wolverines – coach Bruce Ollis and winning football. Their great start includes the latest effort, a 42-0 blanking of East Henderson.
