CHARLES PEREZ joined News 13 This Morning as an anchor in August 2023.
Charles is an Emmy award winning journalist who’s reported on stories from Los Angeles, to New York to Miami as well as the Caribbean and South America. He’s hosted his own nationally syndicated talk show and covered everything from politics and presidents to hurricanes and snow storms, while interviewing some of the biggest newsmakers of the day. He’s also swam with sharks and been swarmed by bees. He hasn’t wrestled any bears yet, but you never know!
A few years back he took a break from reporting to do something he’d always wanted to do, teach history. It was a commitment to kids and families that he believes only makes him a better reporter.
Charles grew up in South Florida in a bi-lingual family with a Peruvian mother and an American father. He graduated from Florida State University where he studied broadcast communication and is still a proud Seminole.
Whether it’s reporting the news, teaching middle school (both his passions), or cheering at his daughter’s volleyball games, he says, it’s all about connecting with the community and trying to make a good difference. He’s excited to be a part of the WLOS team and to serve the people of Western North Carolina.
