RYAN COULTER is News 13's weekday morning meteorologist. Ryan was born and raised in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains, so the mountains of Western North Carolina are a seemless fit. Ryan was born and raised in a small town outside of Denver, Colorado. Growing up, Ryan was fascinated with the wintertime snow and the springtime storms that came through the area. Because of this, he knew from a young age that he wanted to study weather. Ryan attended Metropolitan State University of Denver, graduating with a degree in Broadcast Journalism with a Meteorology minor. He is currently continuing education through Mississippi State University.
Ryan originally came to WLOS in December 2019 forecasting for the weekend morning show. His first job in television was at an NBC affiliate in Denver where he worked as an editor and learning all the basics of working in a newsroom. After graduating, he worked at the KVII, the ABC affiliate in Amarillo, Texas. There, he had experience tracking severe thunderstorms, including tornadoes in the spring, and extreme winter storms and high wind events across the High Plains.
Outside of work, Ryan has a cat named Rowdy that he adopted while living in Texas. He tries to be outside as much as possible from skiing in the winter to any outdoor activity the rest of the year. More recently, he added paddle boarding to his list of hobbies. He is also a big Colorado sports fan, but don't be surprised if you see him at a local Tourist game. Ryan also respects a good craft brew, which makes Asheville a good fit.
